A Brief History of Kairos Community Trust
1991John Kitchen moved to 158 Stonhouse Street with Tony Walsh and set up home
with a few homeless people. This was a derelict Church of England property.
1992Soup kitchen opened at the address.1993Charity shops opened on High Street Clapham to fund project.
1995First Move-On house opened at Albert Square, Stockwell.
1995-Three Move-On houses opened at Guildersfield Road,
1996Streatham; Glanville Road, Brixton and Deronda Road, Tulse Hill.
1997Bethwin Road opened as a Rehab Hostel.
1998Moved from Stonhouse Street to 22 Linden Grove.
1999Bethwin Road registered as a Care Home and our Administration Office
opened at Elm Grove, Peckham.
2001Healthy Living Centre opened at 66 Nunhead Lane, mainly serving LindenGrove.
2004The Aftercare Club opened in Camberwell.2005New office and residents' house opened at 110 Brixton Road.
2006Linden Grove refurbishment commenced.
2007Linden Grove refurbishment completed and is now a 24 bed community based
detox hostel.
2007Aftercare Programme opened in Peckham.
2007Opened a Move-On house in North London.
2008Office at Brixton Road became too small, moved to new offices in Streatham.
2008Opened 5 new Move-On houses - 1 in Lambeth, 2 in Lewisham and 2 in
Southwark.
2009One more Move-On house opened in Lambeth in June and another two opened in
Southwark in October.
2009Linden Grove became a Community Based Detox Hostel.
Today, there is a 24 bed community based detox hostel, a 15 bed rehab care home, an aftercare programme and 28 Move-On houses with up to 155 people accommodated.
Over the years, many people have been rehoused from the Move-On houses into self-contained independent accommodation.
