The Move-on team supports and helps run specialist recovery groups for our service users. For more information about joining one of these groups or volunteering, contact head office.
The Second Chance Group
This group supports former prisoners who are returning to the community. It’s a peer-mentoring scheme run by volunteers and staff that aims to help clients stay clean and sober and to prevent reoffending. It meets on the first Wednesday of the month.
Volunteers support clients at every stage, starting at the prison gate. As part of helping clients adjust to their new life, they are introduced to the 12-Step fellowships of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. Staff support and help clients understand and meet the requirements of their probation conditions. (Kairos regularly works with prisons across the country and also CARAT and RAPt teams.)
The Second Chance group has been going since 2008, supported by many former clients who in their turn have volunteered to help newcomers. In the past year, we have supported 67 people.
Womens’ Therapy Group
This group for women service users in recovery is facilitated by a Kairos member of staff and meets weekly.
Women of Substance
Now in its third year, this is an autonomous group for service users in recovery supported by Kairos Community Trust; it meets fortnightly.
